The scholarships below are Foundation Scholarships that have an essay topic as part of the application. When applying for one of these scholarships please include your name, student ID, and name of the scholarship for which you are writing the essay in the essay document that is attached to your email. Submit your essay foundationapplication@davenport.edu.
The completion of an essay does not guarantee scholarship funds.
Complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) if you have not done so already. Data from the FAFSA is used in the awarding process for various scholarships.
Applications will be accepted throughout the academic year; however, scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to students enrolled half-time or more. Continuing students must have a minimum CGPA of 2.8. Primary consideration will be given to the earliest applicants meeting the scholarship criteria.
If you are awarded a Foundation scholarship you will be notified by Financial Aid.
Mary Walsh Kole Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Eligible Campus: Midland
Application period: 4/1-10/1
If you are a nursing major at the Midland campus, are enrolled in clinical courses (Level I or Level II), have a satisfactory performance during the fall semester within the nursing sequence, have satisfactory standing in a clinical rotation, and have an overall GPA of at least 2.5, you may be eligible to receive the Mary Walsh Kole Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Please attach the following essay to your application to be considered for this scholarship. Your essay must be typed and double-spaced. Remember to attach a reference letter from an extended care facility or nursing home if currently or previously employed. Note: BSN students and students on probation will not be considered.
Describe your commitment to long-term or geriatric nursing as a career goal.
Study Abroad Annual Scholarship
Eligible Campus: All
Application period: 8/1-6/30
Submit an essay of up to 500 words detailing the reasons why you want to study abroad and how the experience is relevant to your personal and professional goals.
Lisa Trombley Memorial Scholarship
Eligible Campus: Warren
Application period: 4/1-10/1
Lisa Trombley was a great student and friend to all at DU's Romeo Campus. She worked hard to pay for books and the balance financial aid did not cover. Her life was cut short by a drunk driver in November 2001. This scholarship was established to honor her memory and aid all who struggle with the cost of a college education. Applicants must submit a 500-word essay on how as a society we can end drunk driving and avoid further tragedies.
Initech Global Technology Endowed Scholarship
Eligible Campus: W.A. Lettinga
Application period: 4/1-10/1
This scholarship is for an incoming freshman enrolled in a BS program at the College of Technology. Preference is given to a graduate of Forest Hills Public Schools. To be considered, provide a 500-750 word essay that includes: 1. Why you chose the technology field; 2. Why college is important to you; 3. How this scholarship can help you; 4. Future career plans.
Hungerford Annual Accounting Scholarship
Eligible Campus: W.A. Lettina
Application period: 4/1-10/1
This scholarship is for students with a 3.2 overall GPA and is a full-time undergrad studying for a major in accounting at the Lettinga campus. The student must have completed ACC 301 (Intermediate Acct) and submit a resume and a one-paragraph essay addressing how they demonstrated leadership in their personal or school life. The application will be reviewed by the accounting faculty.
Alumni Scholars Legacy Endowment
Application period: 4/1-10/1
This scholarship was established to honor the generous gift that Wilbur Lettinga and his family provided to students upon the opening of the Lettinga Campus in 2006. The gift of education has made a lasting impact on those who received the scholarship and we hope to continue showing the generosity bestowed upon us by paying it forward to future Davenport students. The donors who supported this endowment have embarked on their own journey of success and are grateful for the opportunities received and those yet to be provided to future recipients. Applicants must submit a maximum 500-word essay as to whose legacy they most admire and why.
